CWL Brewco, the Cornish hospitality, tourism, and beverage company behind The Sloop Inn and St Ives Brewery, is proud to announce the acquisition of three historic establishments in Bude, Cornwall—The Falcon Hotel, The Brendon Arms, and The Old Lifeboat House.
For generations, these family-run businesses have been at the heart of the community, and CWL Brewco is committed to preserving their legacy. As a family-owned company, we understand the importance of maintaining the unique character, history, and warm hospitality that make these venues so special. By working closely with the existing managers and staff, we aim to uphold the high standards and welcoming atmosphere that locals and visitors cherish.
Esteban Cesan, who oversees CWL Brewco’s growing hospitality portfolio, shared:
We are honored to build on the strong foundations laid by the Brendon family. Their dedication to service and community has made these establishments beloved, and we are committed to continuing that tradition while bringing fresh opportunities for the future.
Wayne Thilwind, one of the new owners, added:
With my family’s roots in Cornwall, this acquisition is deeply meaningful. Our goal is to ensure these venues remain community hubs, delivering exceptional service while respecting their heritage.
This acquisition represents a long-term investment in Cornwall’s hospitality sector, blending tradition, while embracing opportunities for growth and improvement. Just as The Sloop Inn and St Ives Brewery have thrived under our stewardship, we will take the same approach—retaining staff, enhancing operations, and ensuring that each venue continues to offer the warmest welcome in the West.
The transaction was successfully facilitated by Savills (Hotel Capital Markets) in Exeter, and both Esteban Cesan and Rupert Brendon extend their gratitude for the smooth transition.
We look forward to this exciting new chapter and welcoming guests for years to come.
